Zeta expected to make landfall Wednesday; state of emergency issued



The 27th hurricane of the 2020 season is expected to make landfall in south Alabama on Wednesday. Governor Ivey issued a state of emergency Tuesday at 4 p.m. in anticipation of the hurricane. Zeta is currently classified as a tropic storm traveling over the southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen to a category 1.


Peak wind gusts could reach over 50+ mph forinlandcities like Selma, Clanton, Montgomery, and Alexander City. Cities like Mobile could see hurricane strength force gusts, while other cities like Birmingham and Tuscaloosa could see gusts up to 30 mph. Rain totals of 2-3 inches, or more, are expected for much of Alabama.
