HBCU football to go mainstream with partnership between HBCUGo.TV and media mogul Byron Allen



Byron Allen and the Allen Media Group (AMG) has inked a deal with Symonds-Evans Media, LLC to acquire HBCUGo.TV, a digital media platform dedicated to highlighting news and developing content that focuses on the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).


The acquisition marks a significant victory for HBCUGo.TV, as the move positions the business to become the leading free streaming service featuring America’s 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Acquiring HBCUGo.TV expands the Allen Media Group’s streaming platform footprint to reach a larger share of the African American entertainment market. Allen sees HBCUGo.TV as a complement to The Grio, the digital media site that AMG acquired in 2016


The acquisition also affords HBCUGo.TV an opportunity to bring its unique content to audiences worldwide, including a first-ever partnership with the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)—the nation’s oldest historically Black athletic conference—to broadcast 44 Black college games during the current football season, and the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. These broadcast, featuring all CIAA institutions, will be featured on the HBCUGo.TV streaming platform throughout the season.


As part of the deal, AMG has also acquired the robust HBCUGo.TV library of more than 5,000 hours of content, featuring HBCU students and alumni. The current HBCUGo.TV management team will continue to manage the HBCUGo.TV platform.

Allen's newest media property is a major addition to the mogul's expanding global media empire.
