ASU Board Renews Contract of Fmr. State Senator, Dr. Quinton Ross, as University President

(Montgomery, Ala.) – The Board of Trustees for Alabama State University (ASU) voted today to renew the contract of the University's 15th President, Dr. Quinton T.Ross. Ross has served as the President of ASU since 2017. “I'm excited for Dr. Ross. I believe that he has worked to make ASU a better place. With this extended time he has with us, there’s no telling of what he’ll accomplish,” said ASU Student Government Association President David Hammond. President Ross is a three-time graduate of ASU, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1992, a Master of Arts degree in Education in 1995 and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership, Policy and Law in 2010. He is, perhaps, best known as a former member of the Alabama State Senate, where he served four terms. Many believe Dr. Ross has set a new standard for fundraising at ASU. Under his leadership, fundraising has increased by nearly 130 percent, with more than $7.6 million raised over a two-year period through corporate and individual donations. He has also secured appropriations increases in the Alabama Education Trust Fund Budget during his tenure as President.

Like all universities across the country, ASU is currently focused on ensuring the campus is safe for student's returning next month. President Ross spoke with Alabama News Center last week about the university's preparation plans. “COVID-19, it has emphasized the lack of resources that have been provided to HBCUs over the years. We will be providing an initial safety pack to every employee, to every student that comes on campus,” said Ross.
