December 1, 2021 marks sixty-six years since a cadre of determined residents in Montgomery, Alabama started a movement of sustained protest that lasted for 382 days but forever changed the course of American history. This week, the city of Montgomery and the nation will celebrate the sacrificial work of civil rights icon, Rosa Parks and the many other heroes of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Alabama is not the only state that honors Parks on the first day of December—Oregon and
